Taking a Picture Of Your Iris

You will need: 

  • iphone 14 or SLR camera (preferred) OR iphone 8+ with macro lens

  • Small torch

  • A person to help

*All pictures shown below have been taken with an iphone 8 with a macro lens

Find a dark space or go outside in the morning. 

The light levels are best in the morning for a clear picture. Make sure there is no sunlight bouncing off the iris. This will obscure your eye in the picture.

Using the camera on the back of the phone, place it as close to the eye as possible.

Make sure you can see the whole iris, if the eyelids are covering any part of it gently pull the skin away.

Use the torch to the side of the eye to get a clear picture of your iris.

Do Not Put The Torch Or Beam Directly Into The Eye.

 

Place it to the side so the light shines across the eyeball. You need to be able to see the fibres of the iris. It might take a few tries and different angles of the torch to get this correctly.

Anyone who is light sensitive may struggle with this step. Please get in touch if this is a problem.

Take at least one picture of each iris (right and left) and send via email to
